Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the clinical outcomes of posterior chamber implantable collamer lens(ICL) implantation in high myopic patients with refractive amblyopia.
Setting:
SUNGMO EYE HOSPITAL, BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA
Methods:
57 eyes of 40 patients with BCVA under 16/20 who underwent ICL implantation(model V4c, STAAR Surgical, inc.) from July, 2010 to February, 2017 were investigated retrospectively. All patients were examined for preoperative & postoperative 1day, 1week, 1month UCVA, BCVA and manifest refraction spherical equivalent(MRSE), vaulting, endothelial cell count, and complications.
Results:
Mean age was 36.2±9.79. Mean BCVA(logMAR) and MRSE was 0.26±0.17, -11.46±4.73D preoperatively. Mean UCVA was 0.20±0.24, 0.16±0.19, 0.14±0.19 postoperative 1day, 1week and 1month. Mean MRSE was -0.08±0.59D, -0.08±0.54D, -0.08±0.55D postoperative 1day, 1week and 1month. 47eyes(82.5%) shows improvement in BCVA at least 1 line. 38eyes(66.7%) recovered from amblyopia criteria to normal eyes. There is no clinically significant intraoperative or postoperative complications such as glaucoma, cataract, iridocyclitis.
Conclusions:
This short-term results indicates that ICL implantation can be a promising alternative therapy for high myopic patients with refractive amblyopia, who have failed with conventional treatments and not suitable to corneal refraction surgery.
