Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study the functional statement of the visual analyzer in patients with chronic
vertebral-basilar insufficiency.
Setting:
Astrakhan State Medical University, Ophthalmological department "Medical and sanitary unit" Gazprom-Astrakha, Russia
Methods:
Were examined 86 persons with chronic vertebral-basilar vascular
insufficiency. Of these women was 58% (50 person), and men - 42% (36 person). The average
of examined age was 62,2 ± 8,4 years. The control group consisted of 30 healthy individuals of
appropriate age and gender. Electrophysiological study included: the definition of the electrical
sensitivity and the lability of the optic nerve (ON), flicker fusion frequency, electroretinography
(ERG), which included general and macular ERG.
Results:
All patients had various stages of ocular fundus changes typical for the arterial
hypertension, a significant reduction in the flicker fusion frequency compared with the normal
results (p<0,05). When an overall significant decrease in ERG amplitude was determined a-and
b-waves, macular ERG - amplitude decrease and prolongation of the latency time of a-and bwaves
compared with the control group, decreased the amplitude of oscillatory potentials.
Indices of the lability and sensitivity of the optic nerve were within normal limits.
Conclusions:
Application of new electrophysiological diagnostic methods allow to identify and
assess the degree of pathological changes in the visual analyzer at an early sub-clinical level of
disease in violation of circulation in the vertebral-basilar basin.
