Abstract Details
Purpose:
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is the leading cause of evaporative dry eye disease. There are some standard treatment for MGD that has some drawback and limitation. So investigation of new treatment approach is essential. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Intense regulated pulsed light (IRPL) for the treatment of MGD in Iranian patients.
Setting:
This study is a noncomparative interventional case series was conducted in Vision Health Research Center, Tehran, Iran
Methods:
Thirty patients with MGD were enrolled in this study. For all patients, IRPL therapy included 5 pulses of 11.4J/cm2 per eye at day 0, 15 and 45. Variable s including TBUT, Corneal staining, meibumian secretions, dryness, conjunctival redness, lid margin, and patient satisfaction were evaluated after treatment and compared with pre treatment conditions
Results:
Compared to baseline, TBUT, dryness, meibomian gland secretion quality, and expressibility and patient satisfaction were significantly improved after IRPL treatment. (p<0.05)
Conclusions:
Intense regulated pulsed light is a safe and efficient treatment for MGD in Iranian patient. A multi center study with more sample size is suggested.
