Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the influence of the mono- and complex therapy by cream and shampoo «Demazol» on the dynamics of clinical and laboratory parameters (akarogramms) in patients with Demodex blepharitis.

Setting:

Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (RNRMU), Moscow, Russia

Methods:

There were 45 patients (aged from 23 to 86 years) with Demodex blepharitis/blepharoconjunctivitis in the study. The akarogramms indicated the number of adult mites, larvae and eggs of parasites separately for each eye. Patients were divided into two groups: group I- monotherapy(cream), group II - complex therapy (cream and shampoo). For the study, patients took epilated 16 eyelashes and microscopy. The cream was applied on the eyelids 2 times a day, and before this pretreatment-alcohol eucalyptus tincture (both groups). Additionally, shampoo was applied on facial and ears skin (group ll). The course of treatment was 45 days.

Results:

In both group, the cream and shampoo «Demazol» had eliminated all forms of the mite Demodex — adults, larvae and eggs of parasites after 45 days of application. The number of mites after the course was significantly reduced in both groups: 5 and 18.6 times (by the number of adults); 3 and 7.6 times (the number of larvae), 7 and 5,5 times (the number of parasite eggs). Reduction the number of ticks was noted in general by 95% of patients; full or substantial reduction by 79,8% in group l and 94,6% in group ll, proving the specific efficacy complex therapy.

Conclusions:

The cream and shampoo ( complex therapy) "Demazol" is an effective method of treatment Demodex blepharitis and can be recommended for a complex therapy of this conditions.
