Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine if a correlation exists between the central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth and keratometric readings detected by corneal topography and the axial length measured by partial coherence interferometry (optical biometry) in Egyptian Population.
also to determine if a correlation exists between anterior chamber depth, central corneal thickness and keratometric readings measured by two different methods (corneal topography and partial coherence interferometry).
Setting:
Kasr Al-Ainy Hospitals,Cairo University,Egypt
Methods:
Observational prospective study where an analysis of the central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, keraometric readings and axial length was done in Egyptian population.
157 eyes of 80 patients aged 20 to 75 years.
Exclusion Criteria include:
Previous history of ocular trauma or surgery, glaucomatous eyes, corneal dystophies or degeneration, ocular pathologies affecting corneal curvature such as Keratoconus.
-A complete history and examination was done.
-An anterior segment tomography was performed by an Oculus Pentacam. The following parameters were provided:
Corneal tomography
Keratometric readings
Central corneal thickness
Anterior chamber depth
Keratoconus indices.
IOL Master(Zeiss) was done for evaluation of axial length
Results:
The regression analysis performed showed:
-Regarding central corneal thickness and axial length showed no correlation between both variables
-Regarding axial length and keratometric readings shows an inverse association that is statistically significant.
The regression analysis performed on CCT and ACD shows a positive correlation that is statistically significant.
The regression analysis performed on axial length and anterior chamber depth showed a positive correlation that is statistically significant.
The regression analysis performed on central corneal thickness and keratometric readings (K2) showed an inverse correlation that is statistically significant.
Conclusions:
In this observational prospective study we conclude that there was no a clinically significant correlation between central corneal thickness and axial length .
-There was also a statistically significant correlation between axial length and anterior chamber depth.
-There was a positive correlation between central corneal thickness and anterior chamber depth.
