Determination of the leakage point using spectral optical coherence tomography in central serous chorioretinopathy

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Determine the correlation of the leakage point according to the spectral optical coherence tomography with the fluorescein angiography.

Setting:

Kazakh Eye Research Institute, Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Methods:

The study was conducted in 18 patients (19 eyes) with central serous chorioretinopathy, the age of patients varied from 28 to 53 years, men - 13, women - 5. All patients carried out the spectral optical coherence tomography and fluorescent angiography. Optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography was performed with the spectral optical coherence tomograph HRA+OCT Spectralis (Heidelberg Engineering), the macula scan was carried out using the scanning protocol Dens mode, where the scanning area is 30x25 degrees, 50 scans.

Results:

The leakage point according to spectral optical coherence tomography looked like a local site of detachment and destruction of pigment epithelium with a hyper-reflective, fibrinous or transparent subretinal fluid. The analysis of the results showed the coincidence of the localization of the leakage point according to the OCT with the leakage point according to the FA data for 17 eyes (100%), at 2 eyes the leakage point was not determined either by OCT or by FA in a patient with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy.

Conclusions:

The leakage point in central serous chorioretinopathy according to spectral OCT correlates with the leakage point according to the FA in all cases (100%), which allows replacing the invasive method of FA with spectral OCT.
