Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LASIK Xtra, an eye surgery procedure which combines laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and corneal collagen cross-linking in one setting

Setting:

This study was conducted in Jakarta Eye Center (JEC) Kedoya, Jakarta, Indonesia, retrospectively evaluating the data of patients undergone Lasik Xtra from 2012 up until 2017

Methods:

Two hundred and forty myopic patients (480 eyes) who underwent LASIK Xtra were evaluated retrospectively. Refractive errors were subjectively measured before the surgery. Refraction after the surgery were measured objectively using autorefractometer at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month following surgery. Corneal topographic charactheristics were also evaluated before and after the surgery. Complication during and after surgery were also be evaluated

Results:

The mean age of the LASIK Xtra patients was 25.8 ± 6.8 years. The mean refractive error was -7.45±3.26 diopters (D), with range -1.75 to -13.50. The mean value of Kmean was 43.9±2.3 D, pachymetry 503.3±1.0 μm, and corneal volume 55.1±3.1 mm3. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was 8.47±3.36 D. At 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery, mean SE were 0.02±0.98 D, -0.08±1.19 D, and 0.14±0.73 D respectively. SE decreased significantly at 1 day after surgery (p=0.009). None of the patients developed signs of significant complications during the follow-up

Conclusions:

LASIK Xtra can effectively correct refractive error in patients with myopia. No significant complications were found during surgery and follow-up
