Abstract Details
Purpose:
To show the outcome of Trans-PRK procedure in our clinics from July 2016 until December 2017.
Setting:
This procedure was performed at Lasik Centre Surabaya. The author and surgeons did not have any financial disclosure in this study.
Methods:
This is a retrospective study of Trans-PRK patients in previous year. The procedure was performed in Lasik Centre Surabaya Eye Clinic using Amaris 750s. After the excimer procedure, the Mitomycin C was applied on the corneal bed for 12 seconds continued by irrigating the cornea with 20 ml balanced salt solutions. Bandage contact lenses were used to cover the cornea. The contact lenses were removed after 7 days post operatively. Tobramycin and dexamethasone combination eye drops were given until 2 weeks after Trans-PRK. The patients were followed from day-1, day-7 until day-30.
Results:
Seventy-seven eyes from 42 patients were undergone Trans-PRK. The mean age of the patients was 21.76 ± 5.58 year-old. The average spherical equivalent (SE) before Lasik was S-2.66 Diopter(D), corneal thickness was 525.4 ± 40.2 micron. One day post operatively, the mean uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.9, and mean SE was S+0.03 D. There was corneal haze in 13 eyes. On day-7 post operatively, mean UCVA was 1.0 with SE was S-0.47 D. After day-30 the mean UCVA was 1.0 and SE was S-0.33 D. No corneal haze was found in all patients.
Conclusions:
Trans-PRK as a surface ablation LASIK procedure has excellent outcome. It is a considerable choice to be performed in thin cornea with moderate to high myopia. Although the subject number of this study was not representing all population, this procedure could have been a promising outcome for the future.
