Purpose:

Comparison of anterior chamber angles in pseudoexfoliation (PEX) syndrome and pseudoexfoliation (PEX) glaucoma patients after pharmacological dilatation

Setting:

Mardin State Hospital in Turkey

Methods:

Patients with PEX syndrome (PEXS) and PEX glaucoma (PEXG) who applied to the Mardin State Hospital ophthalmology clinic and a healthy control group were included in the study. Of all patients, the intraocular pressures (IOP) were assessed by Goldmann applanation tonometry and the anterior chamber angles (ACA) were assessed by optic coherence tomography hourly for 4 hours before and after dilatation.

Results:

There were a significant differences between the PEXG - control groups at 1st and 2nd hours (p=0.039, p=0.001), between the PEXG - PEXS and PEXG – control groups at 3rd hour (p=0.001, p˂0.001), and between the PSXS- control and PEXG- control groups (p=0.019, p˂0.001) in terms of superior quadrant. There was no significant difference in terms of angle change in the inferior region at any time between the 3 groups.

Conclusions:

After pharmacologic dilatation, particularly the anterior chamber angle change of the superior region was significantly different between the 3 groups.
