Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the outcome of trabeculectomy using Ologen collagen implant in cases of previously failed glaucoma surgery

Setting:

The research Took place at Al-Hussein University Hospital, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt

Methods:

In this prospective interventional case series study, twenty three cases with failed filtering blebs after trabeculectomy underwent trabeculectomy with ologen as an adjuvant. The surgical outcome of surgery was evaluated over a follow up period of 6 months. Intraocular pressure (IOP), number of antiglaucoma medications, and complications were evaluated after one week, 1 month, 3months, and 6 months after surgery.

Results:

The mean age (St.Dev) of patients was 47.78 (19.56). The mean IOP before surgery was 32.26 (4.7 mmhg). The mean post operative IOP was significantly reduced after surgery to 20.48 (3.02 mmhg) after 6 months. The number of antiglaucoma medications was reduced 6 months postoperatively from 3.09 (0.84) to 1.09 (1.16) at 6 months. After 6 months 47.83% Of cases achieved complete success of IOP reduction, 39.13% of cases achieved qualified success and 13.04% of cases failed to reach the defined successful IOP lowering effect. Conclusions:

Trabeculectomy with ologen implant can improve the success of trabeculectomy and significantly reduce IOP in previously operated glaucoma cases.
