Safety and efficacy of ab-interno microcatheterization and viscodilation of Schlemm’s canal with the VISCO360 system in combination with cataract surgery for patients with mild-to-moderate primary open-angle glaucoma

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the safety and efficacy of Ab-Interno Microcatheterization and Viscodilation of Schlemm’s canal and collector channels with the VISCO360 System in combination with cataract surgery.

Setting:

Augencentrum Cologne

Methods:

Patients with moderate primary open angle glaucoma underwent ab-interno microcatheterization and viscodilation of SC with the VISCO360® System in combination with cataract surgery. Follow-up was made up to one year postoperative. Efficacy was determined by the change in intraocular pressure and number of antiglaucoma medications. Preoperative IOP was measured without washout. Safety was determined by the incidence of intra- and post-operative complications.

Results:

Eighty-Eight eyes of 59 patients with a mean age of 75.8 ± 8.0 years (range 54-91 years) were included. There was a statistically significant decrease in IOP across all follow-up visits when compared to baseline (p<0.001). At 12 months, patients had a mean reduction in IOP of 31.0%. Postoperative antiglaucoma medications decreased by 85.4% from a baseline of 1.92 ± 0.90 to 0.28 ± 0.76. No postoperative hyphema or visual acuity loss was observed.

Conclusions:

Ab-interno Microcatheterization and Viscodilation of SC with VISCO360 in combination with cataract surgery is safe and effective in lowering IOP and reducing the need for anti-glaucoma medications in POAG.
