Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the outcome of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation in patients with congenital glaucoma.
Setting:
European Eye Hospital ,Skopje ,R.Macedonia
Methods:
We evaluated the results of intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with congenital glaucoma after AGV implantation with a minimum follow-up 6 months retrospectively reviewed.
A total 10 eyes in 9 patients , 4 of them on age between 20-45 years, and 5 children on age between 2 and 6 years .In one AGV was implanted in both eyes. All eyes were treated with local therapy previously , in 6 eyes we performed trabeculectomy, in 2 eyes re-trabeculectomy ,and in 1 eye goniotomy .There were no good results of the value of the IOP , we moved on AGV implantation.
Results:
Preoperative IOP mean (average) was +42.5 mm Hg with SD +/- 10.52 , and postoperative IOP mean (average ) was 17.7 mm Hg with SD +/- 9.48.In 2 eyes postoperative results of IOP were not satisfactory and we included local medicamentous therapy further .
Conclusions:
AGV implantation in patients with congenital glaucoma offers good success in controlling IOP but we have to continue to follow up in the time and when needed to add conservative therapy or new surgical treatment
