Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare visual field examination parameters, Mean deviation (MD) , Pattern standard deviation (PSD) in glaucoma patients performed on two different devices: Heidelberg Edge Perimeter (HEP) and Humphrey visual field analyser (HVF).

Setting:

Rod-elfarag ophthalmic hospital in Cairo & Imbaba ophthalmic hospital in Giza

Methods:

Non randomized cross sectional, comparative, study conducted three hundreds and forty eyes diagnosed as Primary open angle glaucoma, They had reliable visual field test on standard automated perimetry Humphrey visual field analyzer (HVF) and on Heidelberg edge perimeter (HEP), they were controlled by anti-glaucoma treatment without any other cause of secondary increased intra ocular pressure (IOP), any surgical or laser intervention

Results:

There were a total of three hundreds and forty eyes where visual field examination by Heidelberg edge perimeter (HEP) and Humphrey visual field analyzer (HVF) revealed no statistically significant between two perimeters except in sever glaucoma in which HVF show more increase in PSD than HEP

Conclusions:

HEP can be reliable diagnostic tool for screening of glaucoma and follow up of glaucoma patent in developing countries in order not to miss early glaucoma changes
