Symblepharon repair with lower fornix reconstruction with conjunctival autograft

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Purpose of the procedure was to exterminate a recurrent lower lid symblepharon following a fire cracker injury.

Setting:

Subharti Medical College, Meerut, UP, India

Methods:

Diagnosis of L/E Moderate total symblepharon of lower lid and cornea was made. The patient underwent L/E Symblepharonectomy with conjunctival autograft transplantation with inferior fornix repair. Post operatively, a made-to-order clear pupil Contact lens was ordered for the L/E.

Results:

Post operatively, a well formed lower fornix, and with the contact lens, the left eye was identical to the right.

Conclusions:

Conjunctival autograft serves a good method for lower fornix reconstruction in cases of moderate degree of symblepharon.
