Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present the results of implantation of FERRARA ring 210 arc, 250 um thickness, 5 mm optic zone in advanced keratoconus.

Setting:

Medical Center "MAVIT", Warsaw, Poland.

Methods:

FERRARA ring - 210 arc, 250 um thickness, 5 mm optical zone - was implanted in 5 eyes with advanced keratoconus, stage 3/4 according to Amsler-Krumeich scale. In all 5 eyes Vogt's striae were present. The 360 degrees intracorneal channels were made with femtosecond laser, Visumax, under topic anesthesia. Preoperative UCVA was from 0,02 to 0,3; preoperative BCVA from 0,3 to 0,5; spherical correction from +0,25D to -7,75D; cylindrical correction from -1,5D to 7,5D. Maximal anterior surface curvature was from 60,2D to 70,9D; minimal pachymetry from 408um to 483um. Operations were performed between June 2017 and February 2018.

Results:

In all patients uncorrected and corrected visual acuity was improved. In all patients flattening of anterior curvature was observed. In all patients Vogt's striae disappeared.

Conclusions:

The femtosecond laser -FERRARA 210 arc intracorneal ring implantation is a very good method to improve vision in eyes with advanced keratoconus. This method can postpone the necessity of corneal transplantation in advanced keratoconus.
