Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the results of trocar-assisted, sutureless, scleral-fixated flanged intraocular lens implantation combined with penetrating keratoplasty .
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medicine,
Istanbul Medeniyet University, Istanbul, Turkey.
Methods:
A 70-year-old male patient with retinal detachment surgery and cataract extraction surgery due to trauma at the external center applied to our clinic. After examination aphakic bullous keratopathy was diagnosed and surgery was planned. Trocar-assisted, sutureless, scleral-fixated flanged intraocular lens implantation combined with penetrating keratoplasty operation was performed. No complications were observed following 2 months of postoperative period.Evaluated parameters were biomicroscopy, corrected distance visual acuity, intraocular pressure, IOL position, and corneal graft status..
Results:
The mean follow-up period was 2 months. Trocar assisted scleral-fixated flanged intraocular lens implantation with penetrating keratoplasty was successfully performed in eye. Visual acuity improved in patient. During the follow-up period, a well-stabilized IOL without any IOL-related complication was obtained in eye.
Conclusions:
: If surgical period and other complications due to sutureless sclaral fixated intraocular lens implantation were considered, trocar-assisted, sutureless, scleral-fixated flanged intraocular lens implantation combined with penetrating keratoplasty could be preferred in such cases for a surgery. Studies including more cases with longer follow-up are needed to determine their longterm success.
