Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report one case of corneal keloid in a patient operated on with LASIK some years ago.
Setting:
Instituto Oftalmologico Hoyos. Barcelona (Spain)
Methods:
30-year-old female patient operated on with LASIK both eyes 8 years ago. She had had a white nodule in the peripheral cornea in the left eye with blurred vision and foreign body sensation for around 2 months. Corneal OCT showed its subepithelial location and the corneal topography a flattening area with irregular astigmatism. We removed the nodule by scraping. We used a contact lens bandage and topical postoperative treatment with antibiotics, steroids and tear drops.
Results:
Eye recuperated its best visual acuity with a regular topography and a light corneal haze. The pathological anatomy result was a subepithelial hyaline fibrosis compatible with a corneal keloid. This patient had no skin keloids. No recurrences in one year follow up.
Conclusions:
Subepithelial peripheral nodules in eyes operated on with LASIK could be keloids even without previous history as in this case. Scraping was an effective technique to remove keloids.
