Abstract Details

Purpose:

The poster outlines a new method for IOL power calculation in patients who have a history of prior myopic LASIK. It uses Atlas ring values to calculate cornea power in a modification of the Wang-Koch-Maloney method. This cornea power is then used with the Hill-RBF calculator to determine lens power.

Setting:

Apex Eye Mason, OH, USA

Methods:

A retrospective analysis of 21 eyes from 14 patients with prior myopic LASIK was performed. All patients had a monofocal lens implant. Corneal power was calculated using Atlas ring values. This calculated cornea power was then used in the Hill-RBF IOL power calculation algorithm to determine the predicted refractive spherical equivalent at the spectacle plane. The calculated outcome was then compared to the final postoperative refraction.

Results:

Twenty-one eyes of 14 patients were included. Fifty-two percent of eyes were within 0.50 of a diopter of the target. Ninety percent of eyes were within 1.00 diopters of target. One hundred percent of eyes were within 1.5 diopters of target. The average difference from the target refraction was 0.47 diopters.

Conclusions:

This presents a new calculation method for predicting refractive outcome of cataract surgery in patients with prior LASIK. It uses the Hill-RBF prediction model which has been shown to be an improvement over prior methods. This provides another tool for surgeons to help with IOL power calculations in demanding post refractive surgery patients.
