Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the refractive value aimed before surgery in patients undergoing phacoemulsification surgery and compare it with the resulting refractive error

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Istanbul University

Methods:

Patients undergoing phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation were included in the study. Biometric evaluations were carried out with the IOLMaster 500 device (Carl Zeiss AG, Germany). The difference between the target refractive value and the resulting refractive error was recorded as the refractive deviation.

Results:

150 eyes of 107 patients were included in the study; mean age of the patients was 65.24 years. SRK-T formula was used in 100 eyes and SRK 2 formula in 50 eyes. Mean target refractive value was -0.21+-0.17D in the SRK-T formula group and -0.22+-0.29D in the SRK 2 formula group. Mean resulting refractive error was -0.19+-0.37D in the SRK-T group and -0.12+-0.77 in the SRK 2 group. Mean refractive deviation was 0.2+-0.25D in the SRK-T group and 0.51+-0.59D in the SRK 2 group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p=0.001).

Conclusions:

SRK-T and SRK 2 formulas allow achieving a refractive value within +-1D of the target refractive value in the majority of cases. In addition, SRK-T formula resulted in significantly closer results.
