Abstract Details

Purpose:

Retrospective analysis of correction of postoperative aphakia using bifocal intraocular lenses from Oculentis which have been used after cataract removal, clear lens extraction or artificial lens exchange.

Setting:

Silesian Eye Treatment Centre, Zory, Poland

Methods:

680 eyes have been corrected because of postoperative aphakia, which was a consequence occured after cataract extraction, clear lens extraction or artificial lens removal. Lens exchange has been combined with posterior vitrecotmy in some cases, where retinal or vitreous patology have been diagnosed. The results were analyzed taking into account visual acuity and quality of vision.

Results:

An improvement of visual acuity have been achieved in all cases without one, where retinal detachment have occurred. In one case transscleral fixation of the lens from Oculents has been done after opaque artificial lens removal. In eight cases reposition of the lens positioned partially outside the capsula were done such also in the next two cases with toric lenses becaues of its shifing inside the capsula. Some patients have needed additional correction to near distances.

Conclusions:

Intraocular bifocal, lenses from Oculentis can be a successor of monofocal lenses as a first choice products after proper qualification for implantation, giving certain benefits such like far and near vision without additional need for glasses correction.
