Abstract Details
Purpose:
We describe a new method incorporating the VERION Image-Guided system (Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX, USA) with the aim of lowering misalignment during femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.
Setting:
Universal Eye Center, Zhong-Li, Taiwan
Methods:
We used a retrospective case series including 24 consecutive eyes in patients who underwent cataract surgery between December 2016 and January 2017. The technique we developed used only one additional step compared with the standard procedure in cataract surgery; the use of the VERION Digital Marker system to guide a marking tool to mark the corneal limbus. The remaining procedures were performed using the the FEMTO LDV Z8 per the standard protocol.
Results:
Our technique combines advantages of iris fingerprinting technology and mobile features of the FEMTO LDV Z8, has fewer transfer steps, improves centration of eyes, and most importantly, can prevent misalignment due to cyclotorsion or ducking. Further, this method can improve efficacy of arcuate incisions and toric intraocular lens alignment in astigmatism correction.
Conclusions:
New method which aids surgeons in marking the reference axis using the VERION Image guide system, can compensate for possible misalignment. With proposed technique, VERION Image guiding system can be easily incooperated into all FLACS platforms, not only in LenSx system.
