1.8 mm limbal manual implantation of a hydrophobic trifocal IOL

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To establish the successful implantation and results of hydrophobic trifocal IOL implantation through a 1.8 mm square limbal incision with a manual injector.

Setting:

Single surgeon performed surgery with Centurion Vision System ( Alcon) at Clinique Générale Beaulieu, Geneva, Switzerland. PanOptix Acrysof ( Alcon) was implanted with the Monarch III injector with a D cartridge.

Methods:

A retrospective consecutive serie of 30 hyperopic eyes undergoing cataract surgery since 2017. A film will show a squared 1.8 mmm incision with a dual beveled Intrepid knife. A central attempted 5.5 mm diameter capsulorhexis was performed. Hydrodissection was followed by phacoemulsification with Intrepid tip and nanosleeve, using monomanual or chopping technique. I/A monomanual cortical removal used and the implantation of a PanOptix was achieved through the Monarch III injector. Sodium hyaluronate protection was used to perform the capsulorhexis as well as the IOL implantation. An air bubble and ofloxacin injection in the anterior chamber concluded the surgery.

Results:

No complications were reported during the IOL implantation. Good PanOptix centration was obtained and no damages to the tissues were observed.

Conclusions:

It is safe and reproducible to implant PanOptix through a 1.8 limbal incision, with good centration of the implant and minimal trauma to the cornea in cataract patients with hyperopia.
