Abstract Details
Purpose:
The primary end point is the evaluation of endothelial loss in 40 patients who underwent cataract surgery with low infusion and without ultrasound in active fluids and torsional fragmentation.

Methods:
Endothelial count is performed in the preoperative, one day after surgery and one month.
All patients have been operated using Centurion Facoemulsificator set with low pressure controlled infusion on 40 mmhg and with no ultrasound by active fluidics.
In all surgeries we employed OZil Phaco System Balanced Tip and set torsional to 30 while ultrasound were set to 0.
Results:
Mean cell conut density was 2420 in the preoperaive evaluataion. Cell count reduction was 220 cell/mm2 +/- 163 at one moth. 8% at the first day and 9% at the first month.
Conclusions:
The primary end point demostrate that count cell reduction is strictly related to the surgical trauma. Lowering th infusion can prevent cell damage loose if associated to avoiding usage of ultrasound.
