Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report clinical experience with using two different optical biometer.

Setting:

Kartal Dr. Lutfi Kirdar Research and Training Hospital and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Research and Training Hospital , Department of Ophthalmology

Methods:

The study enrolled consecutive 78 patients (78 eyes) having cataract surgery and implantation of Eyecryl Plus HSAS600 IOLs. In Group 1, biometry was performed with AL-Scan and in Group 2, with IOL Master 500 Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at various distance and refraction was recorded. The eyes were followed for 6 months.

Results:

There were no significant differences between two groups in AXL, Flat K, Steep K and ACD (p= 0.339, p:0.06, p:0.97 and p:0.87, respectively). The mean values in group 1 and group 2, respectively, were spherical equivalent (SE) -0.26 ±1.10 D and –0.51 ±1.42 D; UCDVA 0.72 ± 0.12 and 0.66 ± 0.16 (Snellen decimal); UCNVA 7.90 ±1.90 (Jaeger). There were no significant differences in MSE, UCDVA and between groups (p=0.81 and p= 0.20); however, difference in UCNVA between groups (p=0.00) were statistically significant.

Conclusions:

The findings show AL – Scan provides comparable implant calculation results and achieving desired post-operative results with the IOL Master.
