Corneal thickness map changes in patients after cataract surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate corneal thickness map changes and terms it takes to return to normal values after cataract surgery

Setting:

Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education 10th State city Hospital, Minsk , Belarus

Methods:

Retrospective research enrolled patients who underwent cataract surgery with toric IOL implantation. pre/post-op changes of spherical and cylindrical refractions, corneal thickness map in 4 quadrants and CCT values were measured. Main follow-up terms 1 week, 3,6 month. All the patiens were performed Phaco with AcrySof Toric IOL SN60T6-9 impalntations.

Results:

Study included 68 eyes (39 patients), main age of 49,53 ± 11,84. SE was -2,64± 1,38, cyl 2,06 ±0,48, all patients had WTR astigmatism. Values of pre-op corneal thickness map were: CCT 543,1 ±36, superior quadrant 626,9 ± 41,9, inferior 600,7 ± 43,9, nasal 593,1 ± 34,8 and temporal 581,1 ± 36 and increased during 1week after surgery in all quadrants, more in superior 655,8 ±44,2 inferior 617,6 ± 43,2, nasal 613,1 ± 33,7 temporal 615,8 ± 43,2 CCT 557,1 ±29,1 but returned to normal and kept stable values up to the 3 to 6 mouth of follow-up terms.

Conclusions:

The mean corneal thickness map changes increasing after 1-week post-operative cataract surgery returns to normal baseline values in almost all operated eyes in 3 month time. There was no significant difference in mean spherical refraction, but mean cylindrical refraction decreased significantly.
