Abstract Details

Purpose:

To improve drug treatment of ischemic optic neuropathy by new approach

Setting:

Kharkiv National Medical University

Methods:

46 patients with anterior ischemic optic neuropathy took part in research. All patients have had atherosclerosis and blood hypertension as the general disease. All of them received treatment with using: Ca canals blockers (nifidipin), fosfolipids (citicolinum), BNDF–factor (korteksin), brimonidine, antioxidants, omega3 fatty acids, berlithion, dexamethasone intravenous within two weeks. The treatment was repeated every 4 months during one year. Computer perimetry, OCT, FAG electrosensitivity of optic nerve were determined. All patients were followed within one year.

Results:

1. Computer perimetry established MD decrease by 0,6 dB after using neuroprotective treatment. 2. Electrosensitivity of optic nerve increased by 47% in 5 (10,9%) patients within 12 month. 3. There were 4 (8,7%) patients with the FAG and OCT progression of optic nerve atrophy within one year.

Conclusions:

Proposed neuroprotective treatment is useful for patients with anterior ischemic neuropathy. The treatment allows to stabilize visual functions in terms of light sensitivity of the retina and electrical sensitivity of optic nerve in 89% cases with 12 months.
