Abstract Details

Purpose:

To highlight the importance of pupillary dilation in glaucoma patients to look for pseudoexfoliation not only on the lens capsule but in pseudophakic patients on the intraocular lens implant.

Setting:

Emmetropia Mediterranean eye institute.

Methods:

89 years old Caucasian patient with progressive glaucoma and with no pseudoexfoliation before developed pseudoexfoliation deposit on the anterior surface of intraocular lens 17 years after cataract surgery.

Results:

It is important to identify all the risk factors for glaucoma and progression of the disease and pseudoexfoliation is one of the most important risk factors for glaucoma control and its progression. It is not always possible to see the pseudoexfoliative deposits on the lens capsule and intraocular lens through an undilated pupil.

Conclusions:

It is always important to look for pseudoexfoliation in glaucoma / ocular hypertension patients. It is not always evident examining through the undilated pupil and it is not only important in phakic patients but also in pseudophakic patients as well because the pseudoexfoliation deposits can develop on intraocular lens surface as well.
