Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the measurements of anterior segment parameters and axial length obtained by Scheimpflug-based Pentacam AXL (Oculus Optikgeräte, Germany) and swept-source optical coherence tomography IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany).

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany

Methods:

In this ongoing prospective study, 44 eyes of 29 patients were included and the axial length (AXL), corneal radii and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were measured by the Pentacam AXL and IOLMaster 700 and analyzed. To determine the accuracy and reproducibility of both devices, the values were measured three times per eye and visit. The coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to assess the repeatability and reproducibility. The paired t-test and Bland-Altman plots were used to analyze the differences and agreements of parameters measured by the two devices, respectively.

Results:

The mean values with the Pentacam AXL for the axial length were 23,96±0,77mm, for the corneal radii were 8,6±5,01mm and 8,43±5,12mm and for the anterior chamber length 3,23±0,54mm. Using IOLMaster 700 the mean values were 24,01±0,77mm for the axial length, 7,84±0,2mm and 7,65±0,21mm for the corneal radii and 3,2±0,4mm for the anterior chamber length. Regression analysis could prove a high correlation between the three values of one eye obtained by IOLMaster 700 and Pentacam AXL.

Conclusions:

The ocular parameters measured by the Pentacam AXL and the IOLMaster 700 were highly repeatable and reproducible.
