Optic atrophy in vitrectomized eye after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a rare case of optic atrophy in vitrectomized eye after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery(FLACS).

Setting:

Case Report in Min-Sheng Hospital, Taoyuan, Taiwan

Methods:

The 56 year-old female encountered macular hole surgery of right eye. Six months later, cataract was formed and she received femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery(LenSx Centurion Machine). The FLACS was performed smoothly without complications.

Results:

However, her optic disc of right eye turned from pink to pale one month later after surgery. Optical coherence tomography revealed retinal nerve fiber laser was relatively decreased. Visual field showed constriction of central area.

Conclusions:

Femtosecond laser offers a theoretical advantage in reducing complication rates in post-vitrectomy eyes. Nerve fiber layer is decreased in vitrectomized eye. We should mind the pressure of docking in FLACS is higher and vitrectomized eye is vulnerable to surgery.
