Innovative presbyopia correction with AcrySof IQ Panoptix IOL: own results

Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of AcrySof IQ PanOptix bilateral implantation in presbyopic cataract patients.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Silesian University of Medicine, Katowice, Poland

Methods:

20 patients (8 men and 12 women) undewent bilateral cataract surgery with premium IOL implantation (AcrySof IQ Pan-Optix, Alcon, USA) .There ewre evaluated: binocular UCDVA, BCDVA, UCIVA, UCNVA, best reading distance, contrast sensitivity in photopic and mesopic conditions, independence from glasses, visual adverse effects, patient's postoperative quality of life (VF-14 test), defous curve and post-op copmlications. Follow-up examination were 12 months.

Results:

UCDVA, UCIVA, UCNVA improved after surgery in comparison to before it - 0.22 to 0.92; 0.60 to 0.20; 1.52 to 0.54 respectively. BRD was 58 cm, 90% treated patients became totally independent from glasses and were very satisfied with the outcome of the surgery (QoL Questionaire - 25 before and 100 points after op). We noticed that defocus curce between far and near distances was linear. contrast sensitivity in photopic and mesopic conditions improved significantly (p=0.002). In both eyes of one patient the IOL decentration were noticed.

Conclusions:

Implantation of AcrySof IQ PanOptix IOL provides presbyopic patients excellent improvement of visual function and increased quality of life.
