Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients who underwent cataract surgery with the implantation of a new continuous transitional focus intraocular lens (IOL) (Precizon Presbyopia, Ophtec BV).

Setting:

Hospital da Luz, Lisbon, Portugal

Methods:

This prospective case series included patients who underwent phacoemulsification with the implantation of the new Precizon Presbyopia IOL. 40 eyes of 20 patients were included. Over a 3-month follow-up period, the main outcome measures were uncorrected distance (UDVA), intermediate at 80 cm (UIVA) and near at 40 cm (UNVA) visual acuities, spherical equivalent (SE) refraction, contrast sensitivity, the presence of dysphotopsia and the defocus curve.

Results:

The mean post-operative residual SE was 0.08 ± 0.53 D. The mean binocular UDVA was 0.08 ± 0.10 logMAR, binocular UIVA was 0.06 ± 0.14 logMAR and binocular UNVA was 0.11 ± 0.12 logMAR. Photopic contrast sensitivity was within normal values for an age-matched population. The presence of dysphotopsia was low, with 12% of patients complaining of moderate photic phenomena. The defocus curve showed two peaks (0.00 and -2.00 D) with a slight decrease in visual acuity for the intermediate distance.

Conclusions:

The new Precizon Presbyopic IOL offers a good visual acuity for all distances with a low incidence of photic phenomena, making the new IOL a valid choice for presbyopia correction
