Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze the EUREQUO database for cataract and refractive surgery in 2017.
Setting:
Clinics connected to the EUREQUO database in 2017.
Methods:
Clinics connected to the EUREQUO database have entered all their consecutive cataract and refractive surgery cases in 2017 into the database. The cases respect the coding guidelines for inclusion of data. The parameters include demography data, risk factors, preoperative visual acuity, type of surgery including intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract cases and follow up data. Surgical and postoperative complications are reported.
Results:
During 2017 264,891 cataract extractions were entered into the database. In 58% the preoperative visual acuity was 0.5 (6/12) or better. Ocular comorbidity was reported in 27.5%. Phacoemulsification with IOL was reported in 97.8% of the cases. Surgical complications occurred in 1.1%, most commonly posterior capsular tear (0.75%). Complete follow up was reported in 145,113 cases. A final best corrected visual acuity of 1.0 (6/6) or better was achieved by 76.0% of all reported cases and 0.5 (6/12) or better by 95.3% of all cases. The refractive database for 2017 contains 12,423 surgeries, mainly refractive lens exchange.
Conclusions:
Many cataract extractions were reported to the database in 2017 by almost 200 clinics from 15 countries. More than half of the cases had a preoperative visual acuity of 0.5 (6/12) or better. The visual outcome was good with a final best corrected visual acuity of 1.0 (6/6) or better in almost three quarters of the cases. The reported complication rate was within the range as published in literature. More detailed outcome data will be presented.
