Abstract Details
Purpose:
Describe surgical techniques and results of upper blepharoplasty for dermatochalasis to compare medical and cosmetic outcome in males, compared with females.
Setting:
We conducted a retrospective study on 48 eyes (24 patients) that had been diagnosed with dermatochalasis and had undergone upper lid blepharoplasty at the Gazipasa State Hospital between January 2016 and January 2017 by a single surgeon. 12 male and 12 female were involved.
Methods:
12 male and 12 female were listed. Patient age, sex ,complications, follow-up duration and treatment were analyzed. We diagnosed intraoperative lid crease height, skin-muscle excision amount, and fat tissue removed or not. The mean age was 58.1 years in male patients, and 61.3 years in female patients
Results:
Skin and muscle excision amount in the female group was significantly bigger than males. The frequency of fat removal was significantly lower in males than in females. No significant difference was observed between mean lid crease height and the distance between eyebrow lower margin to lid crease in males and females.
Conclusions:
For a good medical and cosmetic outcome, we recommend minimizing fat removal , lower lid crease and lateral orbicularis oculi muscle preservation in older male.
