Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate effectiveness of radiotherapy in epithelial cells ingrowth treatment after laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
Setting:
Federal State Autonomous Institution "S.N. Fedorov National Medical Research Center "MNTK "Eye Microsurgery" of the Ministry of Health of the Russia, Volgograd
Methods:
This retrospective study included 11 eyes of 11 patients with epithelial ingrowth in paracentral zone of the cornea after LASIK localized. Treatment was performed using strontium 90 + yttrium 90 ophthalmoapplicator. Course of therapy consisted of 4-5 procedures.Total dose of radiation 20-50 GreŃ. Data on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), keratometric parameters, were collected at baseline 6 months and 10 years after treatment.
Results:
Regress of epithelial cells ingrowth was achieved in all treated eyes after 6 months with development of light intrastromal corneal opacities. BCVA improved in 6 eyes, degree of residual astigmatismus did not exceed 1,5 D. Results were stable during 10 years of follout up.
Conclusions:
Radiotherapy is an effective method of epithelial cells ingrowth after LASIK.
