Abstract Details
Purpose:
To Highlight the meaning of QALY which is a is a generic measure of disease burden, including both the quality and the quantity of life lived with a reference database of greek patients with diabetic macula edema
Setting:
University Hospital of Larisa Ofthalmology department
Methods:
We have done a retrospective study collecting our data from the patients registered in the Medical Retina services of the University Hospital of Larisa from 2007 until now. Through all these patients we recorded their Va at the first visit in the Medical Retina service, as well as during the therapy with antiVEGF intraocular injections and the follow up. Based on the collected data we calculated the QALY using antiVEGF intraocular injections in Greek patients.
Results:
In a total of 59 patients 76% of the patinets were men with an avg age of 62 yo. Using the mathematical formula Utilities=0.374*Va(Best seeing eye)+0.514 we calculated the QALY with and without intervention as well as the average QALY’s gained by the intervention. The patients needed an avg of 5 intraocular antiVEGF injection to gain 0.3 QALY’s.
Conclusions:
The intervention had a statistically significant increase in QALY with a p value of 0.05.
