Abstract Details
Purpose:
Post-Lasik IOLs power calculation is a real challenge, usually with a miss estimation
Many methods were described to estimate corneal power with reasonable accuracy.
we describe here the use of two modalities
1-Effective Central Corneal Power (ECCP), provided by the NIDEK OPD SCAN 3
2-True Corneal Power ( TCP) by ray tracing, provided by the ZIEMER GALILEI Dual
Scheimpflug analyser
Setting:
Department of ophthalmology
Rabiah Medical Center
Kuwait
Methods:
Retrospective study for 80 previously lasiked eyes, 62 patients, who had cataract surgeries afterwards.
IOL calculation was done using:
1- 40 eyes who had previous myopic lasik correction, 20 used the ECCP, 20 using TCP
2- 40 eyes who had previous hyperopic lasik correction, 20 used the ECCP, 20 using TCP
3- All cases were evaluated for refraction one month postoperatively
All cases were done by the same surgeon, using the same kind of IOL " Rayner C-flex Ashperic"
Results:
In post myopic lasik correction cases
TCP gave spherical equivalent of - 0.60 to -1.45 diopter
ECCP gave spherical equivalent of +1.10 to +1.75 diopter
In post hyperopic cases
TCP gave spherical equivalent of + 0.75 to +1.20 diopter
ECCP gave spherical equivalent of - 1.05 to -2.10 diopter
Conclusions:
1-For cataract patients who had myopic lasik correction, TCP, by ray tracing, provides the most accurate, slightly mopic post operative results.
2-For cataract patients who had hyperopic lasik correction,TCP, by ray tracing, gives more hyperopic postoperative results, while ECCP, provides the most accurate, slightly mopic post operative results.
