Abstract Details
Purpose:
to compare clinical results using digital and manual markers for the location of toric intraocular lenses (TIOL).
Setting:
Ufa Eye Reseach Insitute, Ufa, Russia
Methods:
There were 105 eyes with cataract and corneal astigmatism. Group I - 51 eyes with digital marking of TIOL on VERION (Alcon). Group II - 54 eyes where marking of TIOL was conducted manually..
Results:
The mean postoperative UCVA in group I was 0.86 ± 0.04 (0.31.0) and in group II - 0.81 ± 0.09. BCVA of 0.5 and higher was achieved in 100% of cases in both groups. In the postoperative period the marks on the IOL under biomicroscopy in the main group matched with the given degrees in 100% of cases, in the comparison group a deviation of 5 degrees was observed in 83.3% of cases, and a deviation of more than 5 degrees in 16.7% of cases.
Conclusions:
The exact location of the toric IOL seems to be a key factor to achieve the desired correction of astigmatism. The VERION © system allows to compare the location of the toric IOLs during preoperative planning and intraoperative digital monitoring in real time. Using the VERION © system leads to a smaller number of mismatches of the toric IOL axes compared to manual methods.
