Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the repeatability of the measurement of the crystalline lens thickness with anterior segment-optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT)
Setting:
Vissum, Alicante Spain. Universidad Miguel Hernández
Methods:
Thirty healthy eyes were involved in this observational study. Three measurements of each eye were made in order to determine intraobserver repeatability; main outcome measures were: intraclass correlation coefficient, coefficient of variance and precision index. The AS-OCT used was the MS-39 (CSO, Italy), which automatically gives a horizontal and vertical measurement of the crystalline lens thickness.
Results:
Patients mean age was 67.3 years, the average intraclass correlation was 0.9998 for the horizontal measurement and 0.9997 for the vertical measurement. The coefficient of variance was 0.000 for both measurements, and the precision index was 0.007 for the horizontal measurement and 0.001 for the vertical measurement. The mean crystalline lens thickness was 4.53mm.
Conclusions:
The AS-OCT MS-39 showed a high repeatability in the measurement of the crystalline lens thickness; to our knowledge, this is the only optical device that can do so in a non-invasive way.
