Abstract Details
Purpose:
Patients’ satisfaction is the goal of the lens surgeon. The aim of the study is to detect the satisfaction level of the patients through a questionnaire about distance and near vision in the usual daily activities
Setting:
Ofta Total Clinic Sibiu Romania *, Faculty of Medicine, “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, Romania**, Ocular Surface Research Center Sibiu Romania ***
Methods:
: We included in the study a number of 1020 lens surgery with the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) better than 0,1, implanted 132 multifocal IOL(13%), operated on both eyes. We prepared the dominant eye for the distance vision and the non-dominant eye (NDE) for the near vision. For DE, we aimed at targeting emetropia and for NDE, small myopia. We tested the visual acuity (VA), binocular vision (BV) after the surgery and the level of satisfaction of the patients through a questionnaire with 10 questions about distance and near vision in the usual daily activities one month later.
Results:
VA was 0,9-1, both for the distance and near vision. The BV was preserved. The satisfaction level of our patients was very good when we observed the ocular dominance. Most satisfied were the hyperopic patients followed by the emmetropic patients and the myopic patients. Our patients had some problems when driving by night, due to halos. It is important to perform correct biometry with the best formula for every type of refraction. Monovision can be a good choice for patients’ satisfaction, especially for the myopic patients.
Conclusions:
The multifocal lens implantation was performed in 13% of cases. The satisfaction of the patients was good and very good except when driving at night when it was sometimes good. Ocular dominance is very important in lens surgery. The refractive status before surgery is also very important. The most satisfied patients were the hyperopic patients, followed by the emmetropic ones. Myopic patients prefer to have a good near vision, therefore monovision can be a good choice.
