Abstract Details

Purpose:

Tilt and decentration of an EDoF intraocular lens (IOL) results in sub optimal visual performance. This study investigates the impact of tilt and decentration on IOLs specifically comparing the performance of a novel EDoF IOL to conventional EDoF IOLs in a laboratory optical bench setting.

Methods:

The MTF was measured at 12, 15.30 cpd on a Trioptics optical bench using a model eye with an ISO model 0.0 SA cornea and apertures representative of average pupil size of human eyes under photopic (3mm) and mesopic (4.5 mm) lighting conditions for near and distance focus with a 20D Symfony, Oculentis MF 1.5 and the Miniwell (Sifi Meditech) IOL and compared to an IOL with a novel diffractive design . MTF values were measured at 0 and 500 micron decentration and at 0 and 5 degrees of tilt and used to model the impact on retinal image quality.

Results:

MTF measurements and retinal image modeling show that the novel EDoF IOL has higher tolerance to tilt and decentration compared to conventional EDoF IOLs with at least 40% higher MTF than the conventional EdoF IOL. This directly impacts the optical quality of the image delivered on the retina.

Conclusions:

These results suggest that the novel EDoF IOl will have better optical performance in comparison to current designs.
