Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare zone of flattening in ReLEx SMILE(Femtolaser based procedure) and PRK(Excimer laser based procedure)

Setting:

Nethradhama Superspeciality Eye Hospital, Bangalore, India

Methods:

30 eyes of 15 patients undergoing ReLEx SMILE and 30 eyes of 15 patients undergoing PRK with mean age of 27 (+/- 2) years were studied. Spherical equivalent and zone of treatment was similar in both study groups. Post operative zone of flattening was calculated using tangential curves in PENTACAM in both groups. Post operative zone of flattening was compared in both the groups using difference maps on the 15th post operative day.

Results:

Paired t-test was applied for statistical analysis. The difference in post operative zone of flattening in the two groups was statistically significant (p value <0.005). The area of zone of flattening was larger in patients who had undergone ReLEx SMILE compared to patients who had undergone PRK.

Conclusions:

The area of zone of flattening is larger and more predictable after ReLEx SMILE as compared to PRK.
