Abstract Details

Purpose:

to determine UV protection provided by various intraocular lenses

Setting:

Acrylian Ltd , 22 rue de la Ganzau 67000 STRASBOURG FRANCE. Clinique RHENA ,10 rue François Epailly 67000 STRASBOURG FRANCE

Methods:

UV transmittance was measured with a KONICA MINOLTA CM5 Spectrophotometer for 8 different IOLs with same power ; transmission was measured from 340 to 740 nm every 10 nm.

Results:

4 different groups of IOLs can e described with different levels of UV protection:first group (Envista) with very low protection : cut off < 370nm; Low protection group with cut off between 370 and 390 nm (Technis, Lucia, Artis, Focusforce); Good protection group 390-400 nm (Eyeceeone); Complete protection cut off between 400 410 nm; Complete protection with color perception modification cut off > 400nm (SN60 &Vivinex)

Conclusions:

UV protection provided by IOLs on the market is different for Esch brand. Knowing these differences can help surgeon to choose IOL depending on patient retinal status.
