Abstract Details

Purpose:

Multifocal IOL and more specific Trifocal technology have been implanted more and more in the group of socially active patients when they become presbyopic. A new sinusoidal trifocal optical design with EDOF is presented. Patient characteristics and outcome will be discussed. Prospective non randomized study.

Setting:

Outpatient Ambulatory Eye-Surgery Center Oculus ieper, Belgium. www.oculusieper.be

Methods:

Prospective non randomized study. All patients were operated by 1 surgeon. The FLACS technique was used in all patients (LENSX femto laser). Patients with corneal astigmatism more than +1.5 D were excluded. Patients were followed and Prospective analyses of the results were done. The Femto Laser was used to perform capsulorhexis of 4.7mm, Nucleus division and cornea incisions (main incision 2.2mm and 2 side port incision of 1mm). The Verion astigmatic guiding system was used to guide the position of the main incision by the femto laser on the steep axis.

Results:

15 patients with scheduled Multifocal IOL implantation were implanted bilaterally with the new sinusoidal diffractive Trifocal IOL with EDOF (enhanced depth of vision) technology. The patients were evaluated on day 1, day 7, day 14, 1 month and 3 month.

Conclusions:

Trinova Sinusoidal Multifocal IOL with EDOF has excellent far and intermediate vision and reading results. The EDOF principle gives patients a continuous zone of intermediate vision useful for daily activities and driving. All patients have spectacle independence without an incidence of glare and halo. Moreover thanks to sinusoidal design, Trinova compensates post-op minor refractive error.
