Abstract Details

Purpose:

To examine visual outcomes and quality of vision of a new Extended Depth of Focus intraocular lens (IOL)

Setting:

Goes Eye Centre, Private Eye Centre, Antwerp, Belgium

Methods:

32 eyes from 16 patients underwent eventless bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of a new diffractive Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF)-lens (AT Lara 829 MP). In the postoperative period, we assessed subjective refraction, monocular and binocular uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity for far and near, and binocular defocus

Results:

Mean binocular uncorrected visual acuity for far was 19.6/20. Mean binocular best corrected visual acuity for far was 20/20. Binocular best corrected visual acuity for far was 20/20, and decreased to 18.9/20 for a defocus of -0,5 D, 18/20 for a defocus of -1 D, 17.4/20 for a defocus of -1,5 D, 14.8/20 for a defocus of -2 D,

Conclusions:

This new lens has indeed a wide range of focus in her category and provides a high degree of spectacle independence. Further studies on a larger patient population need to be performed to compare these results with other extended depth of focus lenses on the market.
