Custom-Q ablation algorithm for FemtoLASIK in high myopia: three year results

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the efficiency, safety, predictability, stability after FemtoLASIK using Custom-Q and conventional ablation algorithms in the treatment of high myopia

Setting:

The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Russia

Methods:

We observed 78 patients (78 eyes) with high myopia (from -7.25 to -11,75D), out of which 42 eyes were treated with the Custom-Q ablation algorithm (Custom-Q study group), 36 eyes by the conventional (Wavefront-Optimized) ablation algorithm (control group). All eyes were operated using by the FS200 femtosecond laser and EX500 excimer laser (WaveLight Refractive Suite, Alcon). Patient's examination included uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA and CDVA), spherical equivalent (SE). Corneal HOA was measured using Pentacam Scheimpflug camera. Follow-up period was 3 year

Results:

Postoperatively, the mean SE decreased in the Custom-Q group from -8.73±1.42 D to -0.48±0.24 D (p<0.001), in the control group from -8.81±1.44 D to -1.18±0.23 D (p<0.001). The efficiency, safety, predictability, stability were better in Custom-Q group comparable with control group (р<0.05). The mean deviation between achieved and attempted optical zone diameter had statistically significant difference between Custom-Q and control groups (р<0.05). The contrast sensitivity and patient’s satisfaction was better after the Custom-Q treatment

Conclusions:

FemtoLASIK procedure using Custom-Q ablation algorithm is an effective and predictable surgical method for correction of high myopia with stable postoperative outcomes
