Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the accuracy of the eye tracking function of the image guided system (Verion®) in pre and intra-operative cataract surgery. To implant the toric lens in the proper position is an important factor for its effective functioning. Image guided system was developed for this purpose. The accuracy of the eye tracking function is the heart of this system.

Setting:

Ohashi eye center

Methods:

119 patients (150eyes) underwent cataract surgery with the aide of Image guided system (Verion®). Data was collected prospectively. First, a preoperative reference mark was placed with a marking pen at 6 o’clock limbus under slit lamp microscopy. Ocular surface data including the reference point of the eye was taken by image guided system and using this data, degree marker was overlayed on the eye in the operating room. The location of the reference point was measured and compared in both its preoperative and intraoperative locations.

Results:

117 eyes ( 81%) showed errors less than 1 degree. 18 eyes( 12%) showed errors between 2 and 8 degrees. 10 eyes( 7%) showed errors of more than 10 degrees, which is significant because it can have a negative effect on reducing the strength of the astigmatism.

Conclusions:

Errors of more than 10 degrees sometimes occur when using the eye tracking function of Image guided system (Verion®). We must be cautious about trusting the location indicated by this system. If possible, during surgery, the assistant should check the location of the reference point and when there is an error should adjust the location for proper implantation of toric lens.
