Abstract Details

Purpose:

to report concept and clinical experience of maintaining anterior chamber stability throughout surgery using automated active fluidics via anterior chamber maintainer (ACM).

Setting:

Ein-Tal Eye Center, Tel-Aviv

Methods:

The Active Fluidics™ system of the Centurion Vision System (Alcon) was connected to ACM in a continuous mode to provide a constant pressure throughout the surgical procedure. Phacoemulsification was done by sleeveless technique through a side-port incision. Chamber stability using two types of ACMs (20G [BVI] and 19G [AVI-ACM]) was compared

Results:

Continuous active maintenance of anterior chamber pressure and volume using the automated computerized system provided a consistent, steady state predetermined pressure during the entire surgery from start to end. Pressure did not drop and the chamber did not collapse when surgical instruments were withdrawn, as often occurs using a coaxial system

Conclusions:
