Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study the advantages of air pump assisted PDEK technique utilizing continuous pressurized air infusion into the anterior chamber for multiple key steps in pre-Descemet's Endothelial Keratoplasty (PDEK).
Setting:
Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Chennai, India
Methods:
Continuous pressurized air infusion was delivered through the fluid air exchange system of a posterior vitrectomy machine for multiple key steps (descemetorhexis, peripheral iridectomy, graft floatation, graft centration, graft edge unfolding, graft unwrinkling and graft adhesion) of PDEK surgery.
Results:
Air pump assisted PDEK helped in completing key steps uneventfully and acted as a third hand supporting the graft, preventing AC collapse and preventing graft dislocation. All grafts remained clear.
Conclusions:
This technique makes surgery and several key steps easier to perform.
