Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study long terms results of myopic and hyperopic SUPRACOR, its safety and efficiency in cases of presbyopia combined with ametropia.

Setting:

Eye center "East sight recovery"

Methods:

According to preoperative refraction all patients with presbyopia were divided in two groups. The first group included 172 eyes of 85 patients with hyperopia, the observation period was 5 years. The second one consisted of 20 eyes of 10 patients with myopia, the observation period was 2 years. The preoperative examination besides the standard ophthalmology diagnostics, included corneal topography and aberrometry performed on ZyOptics2 and ZyOptix3 diagnostic working stations (Bausch@Lomb). SUPRACOR was performed on excimer lasers Technolas 317Z and Teneo2 (Bausch@Lomb).

Results:

In the 1 group the average uncorrected monocular distance vision acuity (UDVA) after operation was 0.75, binocular - 0.9, so the patients could refuse from glasses right after the surgery. Their uncorrected monocular near vision acuity (UNVA) was 0.87, binocular - 0.95, and they didn't use glasses in good light conditions. In the second group the dominant eye UDVA after operation was 0.96; non-dominant eye- 0.65, binocular- 1.0, so the patients could refuse from glasses right after the surgery. The dominant eye UNVA was 0.6, non-dominant- 0.95, binocular- 0.97 and the patients could deal without glasses in good light conditions.

Conclusions:

Presbyopia correction by SUPRACOR method is effective and safe. It is a good choice for those patients who don’t want to undergo through more invasive method of refractive lens exchange.
