Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate and compare the changes of higher order aberrations (HOA) before and after Femto-LASIK (laser in situ keratomileusis) for simple myopia and compound myopic astigmatism after topography guided and wavefront guided ablation profiles

Setting:

Eye Hospital "Luxor" 4000 Plovdiv, Bulgaria Bulgaria blvd 47A

Methods:

In this prospective study 64 eyes were included. A total of 41 eyes underwent topography guided Femto-LASIK and 23 underwent wavefront guided Femto-LASIK. WASCA of Carl Zeiss was used to evaluate the HOA preoperative and 1 month postoperative. Flap was created by Alcon LenSx at 120 microns depth in all patients. The ablation was performed with Carl Zeiss MEL 80.

Results:

Total HOA in the topography group increased in the amount of 0.38 ± 0.18 μm preoperative to 0.61 ± 0.33 μm postoperative. Total HOA in the wavefront group increased in the amount of 0.44 ± 0.14 μm preoperative to 0.61 ± 0.18 μm postoperative. Mean changes were not significantly different between the topography guided and wavefront guided groups for both preoperative and postoperative values (P = 0.181 and P = 0.976, respectively).

Conclusions:

The total HOA increased following both topography guided and wavefrotn guided ablation profiles with no significant difference between the two groups. The increase of HOA was a bit lower in wavefront guided group which might impact the posoperative quality of vision.
